Learn To Spiral
Lesson details
99.9% of golfers spend years chasing positions, tips, and timing fixes without ever discovering how to train the body movement that creates constants in the swing. Instead, they fall into the classic “find it, lose it” cycle, here today, gone tomorrow.
Code 6.2 Body Action changes that.
This lesson introduces the real engine behind consistency: how the body moves dynamically through space using natural spiral motion. Instead of forcing static positions, you begin to understand how the body organizes rotation, pressure, balance, and force into one repeatable movement pattern.
The golf swing lasts only around 1.5 seconds. There is no time to consciously control dozens of positions during the playing motion. However, time must be spent breaking the movement into manageable pieces that improve the full swing over time. That’s why great players train movement, not positions.
This is where you stop searching for temporary fixes and start building a movement system your body can repeat naturally under pressure.

“Find it. Lose it. Find it again.”
Why? Because positions are natural consequences. The body is an interconnected dynamic system. This is why The Spiral Code focuses on Body Action first.
The golf swing is not simply rotation, lateral movement, or vertical movement in isolation. It is a balanced combination of all forces working together in a way that is correct for the individual making the movement.
Correct does not necessarily mean “perfect.” It means:
• Safe
• Efficient
• Repeatable
This is why we use the term spiral motion — because spiral movement naturally incorporates all movement directions together. One of the biggest misconceptions in golf is believing the swing is simply “turning.”
Efficient movement blends:
• Rotation
• Lateral movement
• Vertical movement
When these combine naturally, the body creates a spiral. That spiral distributes force safely through the system while allowing energy to transfer efficiently from ground to club.
Nature uses spirals everywhere for one reason: They are efficient under load.
We have to understand movement patterns are trained through the nervous system. The body follows trained habits. The subconscious chooses efficiency automatically. This is why players often hit better shots when “not thinking.” And this is exactly why Core Principle 1 | Intention, separates practice mechanics from the play mind.
Practice is where we build the movement. Play is where we trust it.
The Goal Is Not to Copy a Swing. The goal is to discover:
• How YOUR body rotates
• How YOUR hips internally and externally rotate
• How YOUR thoracic spine coils
• How YOUR body stabilizes under force
This is why we say:
“We coach the player — not the swing.”
A Hidden Source of Pain and Inconsistency
Poor body action is often the hidden source of both inconsistency and injury. Common issues include:
• Lumbar overload from forced separation
• Excessive side bend creating compression
• Elbow stress from disconnected arm action
• Hip pain from restricted movement patterns
The body always finds a way to move. The real question is:
Is it moving efficiently… or compensating?
Why the Spiral Staircase Drill Works
The Spiral Staircase drill teaches the body to:
• Organize movement around one or two centres (feet together or wide stance)
• Blend all planes of motion together
• Sequence naturally from ground to club
• Create force without excessive tension
This is movement education — not mechanical manipulation. You do not build consistency by controlling more. You build consistency by organising movement better.
Train the body.
Train the spiral.
Train the system.
